Barbara Shuman is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor practicing in Denver, Colorado. Originally from France, Barbara has been living in Colorado for the last 12 years. Her journey into the mental health field began working for a crisis hotline, where she volunteered, helping individuals in dire emotional need and at risk for suicide. During her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, She developed a deep passion for psychoanalysis and decided to adopt this modality as her sole clinical orientation. Since then, she has been dedicated to working with adults, children, and families in various settings, including residential facilities, hospitals, and outpatient clinics. Barbra is now in private practice full-time.
Barbara provides individual and family therapy sessions, specializing in common disorders of daily living such as depression, anxiety, trauma, family relations, academic difficulties, and stress management. Additionally, Barbara has a particular focus on infant mental health, prenatal, and perinatal issues. Through her modality of treatment, Barbara believes in the power of psychoanalysis to uncover the underlying causes of distress and help clients achieve long-lasting life changes, where clients feel empowered, as they gain a more enthusiastic and joyful way of living.
Beyond her clinical work, Barbara has presented papers at international conferences on topics related to psychoanalysis and its clinical practice. She is also a faculty member at the Clinical College of Colorado, where she teaches the theoretical and practical applications of Freudian and Lacanian psychoanalysis.
